About JudyAbout Judy

Judy Nauseef

My discovery of Fred McDowell's collection of daylilies in Iowa City led me to the realization that it was possible to become a professional landscape designer.

--Judy

Judy started her Landscape Design business in 1989. She has worked on many projects, mostly residential, in Iowa as well as in Wisconsin and Minnesota. The projects have included an equal number of new constructions and renovations of existing gardens, on urban, suburban and rural lots. Areas of interest and experience are woody plants, perennial gardens, prairie and native plantings, rain gardens, sustainable landscapes, green roofs, vegetable gardens, deer resistant landscaping, acreages and horse properties.

After earning a B.A. in Literature and Art and an M.A. in Communications, Judy returned to school to earn an A.S. in Horticulture and Landscape Design. She is an Iowa Nursery and Landscape Association (INLA) Certified Nursery Professional (ICNP) and a Certified Member of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD). APLD offers a forum for the advancement of landscape design. Judy served as Certification Chair on the Board of Directors for five years. The certification program provides professional recognition to landscape designers based on standards of excellence. Judy was APLD Past President in 2010.

Judy has lived in Iowa City and Johnson County for over 25 years. She and her family live on an acreage where she gardens extensively. They have planted trees, shrubs, fruits, perennial gardens and prairie.

Judy continues to increase her knowledge of plants, gardening and design. As an active and certified member of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers, she attends symposia around the country, participating in sessions, visiting gardens and meeting with other designers. An avid reader, she maintains a collection of books and journals on plants and landscape design. Judy is a member of the Garden Writers Association. The association conferences offer additional opportunities of educational sessions and garden tours.
